River Water Quality Modelling and Management Training Course

River Water Quality Modelling and Management comprises of a set of lectures describing the basic principles of water quality modelling, with case studies to illustrate the application of water quality models to a range of typical water quality issues, such as catchment management, pollution control and environmental impact assessment. The INCA model will be used to illustrate dynamic modelling and the model will be used to gain hands on experience.

COURSE DESCRIPTION
A set of lectures describing the basic principles of water quality modelling , with case studies to illustrate the application of water quality models to a range of typical water quality issues, such as catchment management, pollution control and environmental impact assessment.

The INCA model will be used to illustrate dynamic modelling and the model will be used to gain hands on experience.

Specific lectures include:

  1. Introduction to Water Quality Mass balance, units and terminology
  2. Dynamic River Quality modelling
  3. Integrated Catchment Models
  4. Hands on experience using the INCA Model
  5. Upland water Quality Issues and Modelling
  6. Acidification modelling using the MAGIC model
  7. Hydro- ecology issues and models
  8. Environmental Impact Assessment --The Axford Public Enquiry.
  9. Discussion of specific modelling problems/issues led by participants
COURSE PRESENTER
PRESENTER’S EXPERIENCE
35 years’ experience of water quality modelling. Application of models to over 40 projects from upland to lowland river systems, investigating dynamic and steady state responses of rivers to point and diffuse sources of pollution. Work undertaken for the Environment Agencies, the EU, Water Companies, and in over 30 countries.

Man Days
Course is 2 full days in length, Max of 10 participants, duration 9.30am – 4.30pm each day , lunch, tea and coffee provided in St Peters College, Oxford.
Equipment
Need to bring your own Laptop Computer.
Costs
£950 plus your own travel & subsistence (rooms may be available in St Peters College).
